A$AP Rocky Continues To Terrorize This Newsletter
"Breakin' Dishes" by Rihanna will be on repeat all day
There’s a rumor going around that A$AP Rocky cheated on a very pregnant Rihanna with Rihanna’s Fenty footwear designer, Amina Muaddi.
I hate him. I hate him so much. I have nothing to say other than I hate him and I hate that Rihanna will be tied to him for the rest of her life. Even if it’s untrue. I will still hate him. I’ve known who he is ever since he crossed threshold into Barcade (Brooklyn) with a woman worth literally 70x his net worth, but no one listened to me. He has hurt before, and he will hurt again.
If Rihanna doesn’t attend the Met Gala because of this…with that stylish baby bump………his a$$ is gra$$.
Do you know what today is? It’s Your Anniversary!
Today’s album: The Best Damn Thing by Avril Lavigne
Release date: April 11, 2007 (15 years)
Listen. I didn’t have another one for April.
I was deep in my emo phase when this album came out, and by that I mean I owned a lot of clothing with skull and crossbones imagery, a couple pairs of Converse, some studded accessories, and that’s about it. My mom wouldn’t let me buy the album due to the inappropriate swear word in the title, but my friend did and we exhausted the hell out of that CD.
I wouldn’t say this album has continued to be super influential in my life, but I do feel a little gatekeep-y over Avril in general, considering all these young artists who weren’t even alive during her heyday are acting like she was one of the most formative artists of their childhood. You literally weren’t there. Don’t you dare lie to your elders.
Song I would recommend: To get an idea of the headspace I was in as a 10 year old, listen to “Everything Back But You.”*
Favorite lyric: There’s a lot of lines that make me lol now, but “Got up on the wrong side of life today” really spoke to me as a kid. Also the chorus on “Everything Back But You” is objectively funny.
*I’m listening to this song right now, and I just noticed that Avril kind of has a musical theatre delivery to her voice? Like she has kind of has that talk-singy lilt? No wonder I liked her so much.
